Day 44–Factors and Multiples

factors and multiplesI’m feeling fortunate to have my 6th graders for math workshop as well as “regular” math class. The extra period 2 or 3 times a week provides an opportunity to reinforce vocabulary and concepts necessary to support our work in the morning class.  Today, I introduced the Factors and Multiples game.  As expected, there was the typical confusion of the 2 words and their definitions.  It was very clear which students had facts memorized (or didn’t).  I also heard some nice multiplication strategies when they got to numbers like 23.  “I know 92 is one of it’s multiples because 4 groups of 20 would be 80.  Then I just need 12 more for the 4 groups of 3.”
