Day 43–Comparing Rational Numbers

photoThe two circled times in this student’s work are a result of the calculations in Dan Meyer’s Three Acts, “Taco Cart.”  Students must find who reaches the cart first–the narrator, “me,” or his friend, Ben.

Over the last several days, students have been a little stumped by similar questions when it comes to comparing rational numbers not phrased as which is greater/smaller.  Who ran faster?  Who had the better time?  Who got there first?

This particular student was confident “me” was first, but her group insisted the bigger number was “better.”
