Had a great discussion in class regarding pi and whether it is a rational or irrational number. Two students in particular recalled their reference sheet and quickly pulled it out to convince the rest of us that pi was rational and *could* be written as a rational number in the form of a/b–it’s printed right there. We did some dividing to examine the repeating digits, talked about the importance of the symbol ≈ , and why we use an approximation for pi. I love it when my students argue math with me!
