I overheard several student comments today regarding “halves” so we pulled out the pattern blocks and built some. Everyone was able to do so, most of them building 2 identical halves. Tonight’s homework was to reconsider these photos from students who used different blocks for each half. 1/3 of the class stated both pictures correctly represent halves. 1/3 disagreed, claiming the picture with the red trapezoids separated is incorrect. 1/3 were undecided. Looks like a long road ahead….
