Day 70: Dicussing Notation


I was out on Day 68 and 69 today (Wed.)

Today involved a discussion of the point slope formula and with that comes a lot of math notation.  So we had a discussion about notation after a student asked: "Why are there those things under the x and y?"  I don't think we do enough of the math notation discussion at younger grade levels in mathematics.  It is basically a system for labeling and I don't see anything all that complex in these different types of notations.  Once I am able to relay to students that it basically tells you the difference between one and another they don't see the scariness behind it.
