Their assessment last week showed me that we needed to solidify some methods for calculating slope and y-intercept. Many of them are able to calculate slope and y-intercept no matter what representation they are given (table, graph, situation, equation) but they were kind of all over the place. So we started a little project for them to really hone in to the method in words and a visual example of the method. I am really hesitant to force them to use the equations to calculate slope and y-intercept because they are really comfortable and successful with their strategies right now. What to do….what to do???
Note: I know the last picture has a wrong answer in it. However, this turned in to a great learning situaiton for this group of students. They were asked to refer back to their strategy and they eventually got it right but I didn’t get to take a picture of the updated version.
